Despite having the screen printing workshop at Printhaus just down the corridor from my studio, I haven’t really got to grips with screen printing over my time there. When an informal workshop was scheduled for in Haus members, I was keen to get involved. In the style of the nostalgic ‘Class of 1990-something’ teatowels we all contributed a self portrait to in primary school, we all had a go at a Printhaus version.
It was great to have everyone’s different drawing styles alongside each-other. I really enjoyed this method of creating artwork for a screen – it is so direct. I also found out that if you work with Posca pens on the wrong side of the filmwork, you can work back into your drawing by scratching away at the ink. The result was really effective, adding finer detail than would have been possible simply with the fibre nib itself.
