Seeing Stars

Since Christmas had managed to sneak itself into my day with the card-to-fabric experiment, I wanted to have a go at making some other decorations to sell on at the upcoming Gift Fair for the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. My first challenge was to learn how to draw a perfect pentangle using compasses & a ruler…

Once I had conquered the basic star (which I have to say took me some time!) I decided that the points of this star would just be too thin. Measuring out from the central point I somehow managed to maintain the star’s symmetry and fatten it up at the same time…!

Once I had the template I was happy with, I cut out a stack of stars from interfaced cotton fabric before pinning them onto a leather back.  The plan was to sew a ribbon loop for hanging into the seam as I went.

Photos of the finished decorations coming soon…
